Air coolers have come a long way in a few years
It's ok. I like the aesthetics with the twin coolers and the ability for two fans to be pushing. However, I "upgraded" from a Noctua NH U12S with one fan pushing and one fan pulling. Using Cinebench to stress the CPU, the Noctua had a max tempurature of 82 degree C. The Thermalright Phantom Spirit clocked in with a max temperature of 81 degree C. Running on a 5700x3d. Using same fans as with the Noctua cooler. Not worth the change out. Also the Spirit is not tall enough. I probably should have gotten the Assassin, but was worried about fitting in the case (baseless concern). When fans are attached, the first push fan sits on top of the RAM (in my cases G.Skill Trident Z Neo). But even so, the fan extends above the cooler by 1/4"+ (see photo). Not sure this hurts my cooling, but certainly doesn't help. Undervolting my system made a bigger change (74 degree C vs 81/82 degree C). However, if this were my first cooler, I'd buy it again (or the Assassin).

I have not build a PC for a long time and every reviews says this Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE is enough for Ryzen 7 7700X, and it’s hands-down one of the best budget air cooler. Here’s why it’s a steal:

✅ Exceptional Cooling (7 Heat Pipes + AGHP 4.0 Tech)
Idle temps: ~30-35°C | Gaming load: ~77°C Max on hottest core, This is normal for Ryzen after setting PBO to 88watts.

    ✅ Quiet Operation
The TL-C12B V2 PWM fans are surprisingly quiet
Fan curve is easy to tweak in BIOS for near-silent operation in lighter tasks.

    ✅ Universal Compatibility (AM4/AM5/Intel LGA 1700, etc.)
Installed easily on my AM5 motherboard—no mounting issues.
Clearance is great: Fits in my mid-tower case with RAM slots

    ✅ Premium Build, Budget Price
All-black aesthetic looks sleek (no cheap plastic).
Dual fans included—no need for extras.

    💯 Final Verdict
If you need top-tier air cooling around $35, this is the best value on the market. It competes with coolers twice its price, stays quiet, and looks great. 10/10 would buy again!

I was able to fit the fan in the back as intake. I also had to modify the side fan mount so I can add a 3rd fan as an exhaust. Modification not needed if your going to run two fans. Please note: if your going to try to fit a fan in the back, you will need a motherboard that has a VRM heatsink that is flush with the I/O backplate.

Bought this for a Intel Core Ultra 9 285K – tried using a different fan the first two weeks, but the machine kept hitting 70C and beyond despite how aggressively I tuned the fan curves. Got this setup, and it rarely even hits 50C. Highly recommend it.

This cooler replaced my Corsair H100i 240mm AIO. My CPU is a Ryzen 9 5950x. I had the Corsair AIO in the system for 3 years and the temps were always "just OK" and at times depending on the workload just unacceptable (90+C!). The Corsair software is also annoying and you are constantly having to fiddle with it. Finally got tired of it and bought this cooler.

The cooler is LARGE (duh, you knew that) but until you take it out of the box it doesn't really hit home. I installed this on an ITX motherboard (specifically MSI MPG B550I GAMING Edge MAX WIFI) and had no issue with clearance or fitment. Installed in Cooler Master Q300L V2 which is a small'ish case. Again, fits fine, just take your time.

How are the temps? Pretty great. Idle seems to be around ~40C and playing games it's never gotten above 70C. This is on a Ryzen 9 5950x with Game Boost enabled, so often times it's hitting 4.8-5.0Ghz. Pretty good!

Noise? Yeah it's noisy. You just need to fiddle with the fan curves in your bios to figure out what works for you. You could use different (quieter) 140mm fans than what comes with the cooler I guess.

Used this to replace a 120mm AIO cooler and holy beans has it made a noticeable improvement. Stays nice and quiet under load and barely feels like it’s kicking out any hot air from my computer. Chose this one due to a case size limitation, since I’m transferring my current build into a more traditional PC case, otherwise I would have gotten the slightly flashier version of this with the subtle RGB lights.

Cools my 7800x3d just fine, at a fraction of the cost of my old H150i AIO, which broke and made my PC unusable for a bit (and forced me to deal with Corsair's awful support). Noise level is fine too, I can't hear it over the sound of the GPU. Even if I wanted to replace the fans with top of the line Noctuas or something, it would still be cheaper than the AIO. Not gonna waste my time with water anymore, I'm fully converted to the side of air cooling now.
